That’s it, you’ve made up your mind. You’re going to Zhanjiajie to see the mountains that inspired the famous Avatar movies. Now, you wonder: Where to stay? Let me talk about my experience at the Nvue hotel because if I had to go back to the national park again, this is without a doubt the one I would go back to.
The first thing to know is that this hotel has changed its name several times over the last few weeks, so I will post pictures and a link so that you know which one I am referring to. I think it’s just because they haven’t yet found one that will work the best for their international clients. I mean, choosing the right name is so important in the tourism industry, I can understand.
If you overlook the name uncertainty, I hope you give this hotel a shot, as it’s one of my favorite hotels.

When you think of a luxurious yet affordable hotel, what do you imagine?
- great views of the mountains and the swimming pool
- said pool, open anytime of the day and night
- an most friendly and helpful staff
- free extensive breakfast (fruit, vegetarian or beef noodles, bread, coffee or tea, milk, tiny cakes…) with second serving if needed
- a bathtub on the balcony
- AC
- Italian shower
- lots of natural light
- clean rooms
- a pool table
- available coffee, tea or water
From the top of my head, that’s what I expect the best hotels to have, and that’s why this hotel exceeded my expectations.
The hotel staff got us rides to and back from restaurants or the park entrance, gave us maps and helped us plan our itinerary as effectively as possible, taking into account our desires and preferences. When I had a problem with my airline company, they offered to call and spoke Chinese with them to clarify my personal situation. I am so grateful that they went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home. What else would you want?
Our itinerary?
Day 1: We arrived in the afternoon, so we explored the village and its restaurants
Day 2: Downtown Zhanjiajie (say “Hello” to Starbucks) and to the Glass bridge.
Day 3: Tianmen Mountain (Fairy Peak, Glass path, Stairway to heaven)
Day 4: Zhangjiajie National Park (Monkeys, Bailong elevator, Tianzi Mountain)

PS: Unpopular opinion: I liked Tianmen Mountain better than Zhangjiajie National Park. I will give more details in follow-up articles.
