ABOUT

Fred and Nico come from Brest, Britany in France.

Tell us about yourselves

I am a former Marine firefighter and now a student nurse. My husband is in the French Navy. We moved to French Polynesia for my husband’s work in July 2020. We speak French.

Moving to Papeete, Tahiti

When and why did you move to French Polynesia?

French Polynesia is unique for its landscape but also for the kindness and good intentions of its people. Life is better there than in France because everything is more peaceful and agreeable. And we live unique experiences with our children.

What should people consider before deciding to move to French Polynesia?

Before settling down in French Polynesia you need to think about your finances as life is quite expensive here.

Living in Tahiti

Do you need to speak French well to live in French Polynesia?

No, you don’t necessarily need to speak French well because people speak Tahitian and English too.

Where are the best beaches?

It depends on whether you prefer white or black sand.

What are the best islands?

My husband used to live in Bora Bora so that’s his favorite. We have also been to Tuamotu and Tikehau has a special place in our hearts.

Where is the best area to live in, in Tahiti?

There isn’t necessarily a best area, we live in Papeete, near Pirae.

Final Thoughts

Any other information?

We sometimes go to Moorea for the weekend, it’s close to Tahiti. We call is the sister island. The Tahiti peninsula is gorgeous and in a wild state. You can do bodyboarding but not surfing, snorkeling or stand-up paddling. In Polynesia, there are several good schools.
Thank you so much Fred and Nico for a glimpse into your life in Tahiti! You sure seem to be having quite an unforgettable experience, for you and your children! I wish you all the best!
