Location

30 minutes away from the airport, this hotel is located a bit on the outskirts of the city. It wasn’t an issue for us since all the attractions we wanted to see were really spread out. To give you a bit of context, Chengdu is actually really big and to access most things, you will HAVE to plan and travel everyday to reach your destination. This is a bit unsettling because when picking a hotel, it’s really tricky to choose where to stay. If, for instance, you are considering going to the Dujiangyan Irrigation Park or Qingcheng Mountain, this hotel will be a better location than downtown Chengdu. For us, it was a great place and we used our taxi application (Didi) and trains to reach the furthest destinations like Emei Mountain and Leshan Buddha. The Holiday Inn Chendu High-Tech Center was a nice peaceful bubble after long days in more crowded and touristic areas.

Reasons to choose this hotel

To be honest, this find was an unexpected surprise after a misunderstanding with another lower standing hotel we had previously booked on a different platform. When looking at hotels in the Chengdu area, this seemed to be our best option. Here are the few things that made us decide: food options within the hotel, great service, a gym and indoor pool, a nice view, a quiet place to relax… We were quickly sold. The hotel shares facilities with the neighboring Crowne Plaza so it is spacious. Not only this hotel saved our trip at the last minute, it also provided the best experience we could hope for, at a great price. We had a comfortable stay, were well taken care of, there was no fuss or hardship. Also, as two women traveling alone, we felt extremely safe the whole time. Since we didn’t speak English, one of the staff members who spoke English gave us her wechat so we could contact her at any time. This was especially helpful when asking for recommendations, clarifications or help.

The rooms

They were comfortable and big enough. We specifically asked for a view on the swimming pool side, and it was granted without any issue. There is room service so you can call the desk from your room and order food or ask for information. The room we were in had an interesting layout: The shower was between the bedroom and the bathroom, and if you opened the blind you could see through all the way. This allows the room to really feel open and bright.

Heated Indoor Swimming Pool

The indoor swimming pool is nice, especially if you like working out as there are lane lines. There is a view of the gardens from there, so it’s a good place to chill with a book on the lounging chairs, but keep in mind that depending on what time you go, people might use the pool to swim back and forth. The pool is supervised by a lifeguard.

Food

When you go through the glass doors, you will find a large lobby and small corridors that extends into the Breeze Cafe, a wide catering space with a view of the garden. This is where you can get breakfast or dinner. When you check in, you can pay extra and get unlimited breakfast in the morning. There is also a cafe where you can get a coffee or small dessert.

Fitness Center

The indoor gym has pretty much all the basics that you would need to stay in shape during your trip: running treadmills, weights, elliptical machines, indoor bikes…
