The Best Rooftop Hotel in Dali, Yunnan

Let me start by saying WOW. When I found the Dali Rong Hotel online, I was like “don’t get too into it, there’s always a trick”. I thought that the photos were probably photoshopped and it possibly couldn’t look so good. Well, let me tell you. After staying there for 4 nights, I’m still looking for the trick, and I can’t find it.

This hotel prides itself for providing an unobstructed view of the three famous pagodas of the ancient Dali Kingdom. But I didn’t think that I would see it from my bathtub though. haha

Bedroom and Bathroom

It has a king bed and floor-to-ceiling windows that let the light in, even on cloudy days. On the best days, the sun shines through the horizontal blinds in an artistic vibe.

The bedroom has an attached bathroom, with a shower, sink and a bathtub. On the floor there are pebble paths which take the water in if you make a mess I suppose. It’s the first time I see such a design in a bathroom.

The rooftop

It is simply amazing. It has a 360-degree view of the pagodas, Dali Ancient City, mountains and Erhai lake. There are any chairs but I’m sure you can improvise a little picnic spot on a nice evening.

Chilling Areas

On each floor, there are tables and chairs where you can stay for a chill time if you don’t feel like going to the rooftop or staying in the room. It is a nice place to sit and talk with your friends. It was always available for us when I was there.

Breakfast

The breakfast is free, and is located in a common room downstairs. Women will give you a Chinese breakfast, usually composed of noodles, fruit, bread etc… This common area has a work space with a big table and a bar where you can order drinks too.
It seems that the Dali Rong Hotel is mostly taken care of by women, which is surprisingly rare I find. When we came, the woman at the desk gave us a fruit plate and every evening would give us yogurt and water. Even though her English was limited, we had no problem communicating because we mostly talked by text when solving issues. She gave us a list of things to do in the area and helped us tailor our itinerary to our needs. Once I was trying to find a place solely based on a photo without a title, and she took the time to try to find it, out of the sheer goodness of her heart (it really wasn’t her job, but she really insisted on helping me out).

That’s it guys, let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them all !
